My Enemy, My Friend

This week I’ve been thinking a lot about praying for my enemies. I do this often, but I wonder how many people truly do as the Word tells us. Blessed them; not curse them. Have you ever taken time to realize that your enemy may have been part of the driving force that moved you to yet next level? They may not know how they were used in your life, but you can look back a see the way the tapestry has been woven. And there God had them pushing you and propelling you forward somehow. I know it’s not always the case, but there are times that the one who is so against you turns out to be 100% for you.
I shared this thought with a sister last night and I was telling her that it made me think about the story of Joseph. How his brothers did what they did to him yet in the end he knew that he would have not made it to the destiny that he was called to if he had not went through all that he did. And it started by them being irritated with him and selling him into slavery. Yet when all was said and done he blessed them; not cursed them. She said it made her think of Saul who was one of the persecutors of the Church. Not just one, but the chief one. Even in the midst of all that he had done and was doing… He met the Lord on the road to Damascus preparing to do more harm and inflict more pain, but God blessed him; not cursed him. Transforming him into Paul.
The Word tells us that God doesn’t want one to parish. No not even one. So instead of praying harm to those who use, abuse or curse you. Pray that when God touches them it’s not with his wrath, but with his hand of blessing. It’s not an easy task to do, but it is important and by blessing them you too will be blessed.
